Telegram vs WhatsApp comparison, Why Telegram is better.

telegram vs whatsapp comparison, millionaireaddicted, why telegram is better

Most of us use Whatsapp as a messaging app and many of us have not even heard of Telegram. Hardly any user doesn't have WhatsApp on their phone. But recently, WhatsApp has been questioned for its privacy concerns, which is why I'm writing this article- Telegram vs WhatsApp comparison, Why Telegram is better.

A Russian application Telegram is becoming popular among people, which was popular among businessmen, politicians and media persons till now. So, in this article, I am going to tell you Why Telegram is way better than Whatsapp.

Firstly, Telegram crossed 200 million active users around the world recently. On the other hand, Whatsapp's owner company Facebook, which is owned by Mark Zuckerberg, was caught red-handed for misusing the data of users and the company is in trouble right now. So there is a huge doubt among the users, whether they should use Facebook services or not. As a result, everyone is deleting their Facebook profiles. So, I think its the best time to try out Telegram.

What is Telegram?

Telegram was launched in the year 2013 by Durov brothers, Nikolai Durov and Pavel Durov. It's a cloud-based instant messaging and voice over IP service. Telegram is available for all types of platforms (Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Windows NT, macOS, and Linux). It's more open, secure and safer than WhatsApp (that's what I think).

Telegram or Whatsapp?

Both Telegram and Whatsapp have similar features in most of the aspects, but there is a lot of differences between these two. So, let's find out which features make telegram a better and reliable app over WhatsApp.

1. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Cloud-Based Services

Telegram is a cloud-based messaging service which means every single message you send is not stored on your phone, in fact, it is stored at the data centers of telegram. So if you have to switch your device in the future, then you don't need to take a backup of your chats. Just log in to your new phone and all the messages sent with your account will be already there on your new phone.

Whereas WhatsApp needs a third-party app like google to backup your every single chat of your account which consumes a lot of data. So whenever you need to change the device, you need to log in to the same google account on which you use to backup your chats.

2. Telegram vs WhatsApp: File Sharing

Whatsapp has a limit of sending 160MB of file and 17MB for video files to send to other people, and you even cannot send all kinds of files. on the other hand, Telegram lets you send all kinds of files up to the size of 1.5 GB, which means you can even share an HD movie with your friends.
It also lets you choose the quality of the photo you want to send, ranging from highly compressed photos to original quality photos, with no loss in quality.

3. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Texting

i. Draft

Telegram has recently introduced a new feature, called the draft. For example, you start typing a message but for some reason could not complete it. The incomplete message will be saved as a draft, which you can complete anytime.

ii. Message Editing

Telegram also lets you edit messages. So if you send a message in which there is a mistake or something is missing, just hold the message and tap on the edit icon to edit that message. Isn't it's that simple?

iii. Unsend your Message

Whatsapp allows you to unsend your message within a limited period of time, and even after you have unsended any message, your friend will be able to see that you have unsend a message. But in Telegram, you can delete messages whenever you want. There's no such time limit to unsend any message and after deleting the message you will never get to know that.

4. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Privacy

The problem with WhatsApp is that, if you have to chat with someone, you need to share your number, for which many people did not feel comfortable if they met you for the first time. But in the telegram, you don't have to share your number with anyone. You just have to tell your telegram username and they can message you and they cannot even see your number.

Another feature related to privacy is that you can set up a different password for your telegram apart from your phone password.

5. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Multiple Account

If you use two different phone numbers and need to manage Whatsapp account with both your number, then you have to use dual app services because WhatsApp doesn't allow to manage multiple accounts. But you can add more than one account to your telegram app and for this, you don't have to remove your other account as it provides multiple account services.

6. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Super Group

This is one of the best features offered by Telegram. In Telegram, you can have up to 100,000 people in just one group, whereas in WhatsApp you can have up to 246 people. This feature allows us to create different Telegram channels, and  Telegram groups.

7. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Secret Chat

Telegram allows having a secret chat with someone which will be deleted automatically after a time duration. You can even set your desired time limit for the messages to be deleted automatically.

8. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Encryption

Other messaging apps have 2 layers of encryption, while Telegram gives you 3 layers of encryption, which makes it more secure than other messaging apps like WhatsApp.

9. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Multiple devices

You can log in your telegram account on more than one device and receive messages i.e. you can have multiple sessions. You can also get the information about your telegram logins.

10. Telegram vs WhatsApp: Voice calls and Video calls

Both, Telegram and Whatsapp offer their users the voice over features and both are end-to-end encrypted, which means no third person can listen to your call.

But telegram provides an add-on feature. You can choose who can call you: everybody, only your contact or nobody. If you choose nobody, you can put some people on the white list.

NOTE: As WhatsApp already comes with the video call feature, Telegram still lacks this feature. But there is some news, that telegram is going to introduce this feature very soon.

Besides having such great features, when compared to Whatsapp, Telegram falls short in terms of users. But let me tell you that Whatsapp was never considered secured. Knowing the fact that Facebook is losing people's trust, I recommend you share this article with your friends. Do let me know if you will be switching to telegram or not in the comment section.
